Cloudburst Triggers Devastation in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli District

Chamoli, Uttarakhand | August 23, 2025 — A powerful cloudburst struck Tharali in Chamoli district during the early hours of Saturday, unleashing intense flash floods and landslides that swept through residential and official areas. Several houses, vehicles, the local tehsil office, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s residence, and parts of the market were buried under heavy debris.

Local reports indicate that at least two people are missing, with one feared trapped under the rubble. Emergency teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to the affected sites. Rescue operations are ongoing, while relief camps have been set up to assist displaced families.
