Northern and southern China are reeling from extreme weather events, with record-breaking rainfall triggering deadly floods, landslides, and mass evacuations. The impact stretches across Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, and into Hong Kong, where authorities remain on high alert.

Torrential rains have dumped nearly a year’s worth of precipitation in just a few days, leading to:
- 38 confirmed deaths
- 80,000+ people evacuated
- 4 still missing
- 136 villages experiencing power outages
Much of the devastation has occurred in Hebei Province, where a landslide claimed 8 lives. In nearby Tianjin, infrastructure has been severely affected, causing transportation halts and supply chain disruptions.
Power Outages and Infrastructure Damage Widespread
Emergency services are struggling to restore electricity and road access to affected areas. Damaged power lines, waterlogged roads, and landslides have cut off dozens of remote communities, especially in mountainous Hebei and rural Beijing.
More Rain Forecast — Relief Expected by Wednesday Night
The China Meteorological Administration has warned that additional rainfall is expected across the region through Wednesday, although intensity is forecast to weaken. However, waterlogged terrain increases the risk of landslides and flash floods.
