Jammu, August 25: A severe weather alert has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected over the next 48 hours, particularly on Tuesday.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has cautioned of possible cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones in several districts of the Jammu region and South Kashmir. While Kathua, Samba, Doda, and Kishtwar are likely to see the heaviest showers, Poonch may remain least affected.
South Kashmir’s higher reaches are expected to witness very heavy rain and even snowfall. Residents in flood-prone areas have been urged to stay alert and avoid mountain travel.
Rainfall Pattern & Affected Districts
- Monday (Aug 25): Light to moderate showers are expected across parts of Jammu region, with higher chances in Kathua, Samba, Doda, and Kishtwar.
- Tuesday (Aug 26): Weather conditions are forecast to worsen, with very heavy to extremely heavy rain likely in several parts of Jammu region.
- Kashmir Valley: South Kashmir, especially higher reaches, is expected to receive intense rainfall. Central Kashmir may see light to moderate showers, while North Kashmir is likely to remain least affected.

- Pir Panjal Range: Heavy to very heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, and rising water levels in downstream rivers and streams.
- Travel Routes: Mountain passes may face disruptions due to landslides and shooting stones.
- Poonch District: Expected to be the least affected in the Jammu division.
- Snowfall Alert: Higher altitudes in the Pir Panjal may even see fresh snowfall.
