Imd alert for jammu

Jammu, September 6, 2025 — Heavy clouds continue to hover over parts of Jammu and Udhampur, bringing intense rainfall and triggering alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The downpour, which began earlier this week, has already inundated several areas, with the IMD placing a red alert on the region for the next 24–48 hours.

According to IMD data, Jammu recorded over 81 mm of rainfall, while neighboring districts such as Reasi and Batote witnessed 203 mm and 157.3 mm respectively. These figures highlight the severity of the rain activity across the region. While Udhampur’s official rainfall count has not been disclosed, residents report continuous heavy showers since Friday night.

Authorities have also issued flood warnings, particularly along the Chenab River and its tributaries, as water levels continue to rise dangerously. Citizens are being urged to avoid venturing near riverbanks and flood-prone nallahs.

The weather forecast for the coming days suggests scattered thunderstorms and morning downpours through mid-week, with conditions expected to remain humid and cloudy. Sunday and Monday are likely to witness the heaviest rainfall, before skies begin to clear gradually by mid-week.

⚠️ Advisory for Residents:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in low-lying areas.
  • Stay updated through IMD bulletins and district administration alerts.
  • Keep emergency supplies ready in case of flooding or disruptions.

With monsoon activity peaking in the Jammu region, officials are closely monitoring the situation to prevent potential landslides and flash floods in vulnerable zones.
