Jammu City Battling Record-Breaking Rainfall: Flood Alerts and Rescue Operations Underway

Jammu city is reeling under unprecedented heavy rainfall, with 190.4 mm of rain recorded in the past 24 hours, marking the second-highest August rainfall in nearly a century.

Heavy rains late last night caused severe waterlogging in Jammu, affecting police line Gandhi Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Greater Kailash, Roopnagar , Janipur Excelsior Lane , Muthi, and Talab Tillo. The Meteorological Department had already predicted the downpour.

Jammu, August 24, 2025 – Jammu city is reeling under unprecedented heavy rainfall, with 190.4 mm of rain recorded in the past 24 hours, marking the second-highest August rainfall in nearly a century. Authorities have issued flood alerts across several districts, including Samba, as rivers and streams reach dangerous levels.The Basantar Nallah in Samba crossed the six-foot mark early this morning, triggering immediate warnings for nearby residents. Several key roads, including the Mughal Road and Sinthan Road, have been closed due to landslides, disrupting travel and transport.Tragically, the severe weather has claimed lives, including a mother and her son in Jammu city, while ongoing cloudbursts and flash floods in surrounding districts have resulted in additional casualties. Rescue operations are underway, with the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local authorities coordinating relief efforts.

Officials urge residents to remain indoors, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow updates from the Jammu & Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority. Emergency services can be reached at 112 for immediate assistance.With heavy rains expected to continue, the city braces for more challenges as authorities work tirelessly to protect lives and property.
