Jammu, December 18, 2025 — The Jammu region and adjoining Himalayan belt are bracing for a sharp cold wave this week, with temperatures dipping well below seasonal averages. According to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, sub-zero nights and light snowfall are expected in higher altitudes between December 13 and 15.
This shift marks the early arrival of the region’s harsh winter stretch, often referred to locally as Chillai-Kalan.

Srinagar and Valley Conditions
- Srinagar recorded a fall to –1.8°C, marking one of the season’s lowest readings.
- Qazigund and Pahalgam also slipped below freezing, while mountain passes such as Zojila reported extreme lows near –16°C.
- In Jammu plains, fog and cold winds have intensified, reducing visibility and adding to the chill factor.

- December 13–15: Light snowfall likely in north and central Kashmir’s higher reaches.
- December 10–12: No major activity, though skies remain partly cloudy.
