Ramban, J&K – July 31, 2025:
In a tragic incident triggered by heavy monsoon rains, two school teachers lost their lives after being swept away by flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district. The sudden surge in water levels caught the victims off guard while they were reportedly returning home from work.
The alarming weather conditions prompted authorities to take swift action. The ongoing Amarnath Yatra has been suspended with immediate effect, and schools across Poonch and Rajouri districts have been closed as a precaution.
Public movement has been severely restricted in landslide-prone zones and areas near water bodies. “We urge people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. All safety protocols are being enforced,” said a senior administration official.
Weather forecasts predict continued rainfall over the next 48 hours, raising concerns of further flooding and landslides. Emergency services remain on high alert, with relief camps and helplines activated to assist affected residents.
This incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the region to extreme weather events and raised fresh concerns about disaster preparedness and infrastructure in hilly districts during the monsoon season.
