On September 28, 2025, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Simav in Kütahya Province, northwest Turkey, at 12:59 p.m. local time. Tremors reached major cities including Istanbul, where residents evacuated buildings and gathered in open spaces. A 4.0 magnitude aftershock struck shortly after. Authorities confirmed no casualties.

Within minutes, open squares and parks were filled with people holding their children close, calling loved ones, and waiting anxiously for updates. The fear of collapse pushed many to stay outdoors even after the shaking stopped.

About twenty minutes later, the earth shook again — this time a 4.0 aftershock. While smaller, it kept nerves on edge and reminded everyone that the danger wasn’t fully over.

By evening, local authorities confirmed there were no casualties and no serious damage. Small cracks were reported in a few older structures, but overall, homes and businesses remained standing. Still, many residents chose to spend the night outside or in cars, worried about further aftershocks.
